The Disco Kid

Costa Anadiotis was born in Greece and moved to South Africa at the age of 18. During the 12 years he lived in South Africa he played with several local bands including Buffalo, Fantasy and Café Society.

Buffalo, the band of Peter Vee, was a group mainly doing classic rock covers, blending rock and disco.
Anadiotis played the keyboards in their first 3 albums (Born To Be Wild – 1978, Magic Carpet Ride – 1979 and We’re So Glad You Made It – 1980).

Fantasy was a disco band playing mostly originals mainly written by Anadiotis, Angelopulo and Chelakis.
They released one LP (Fantasy) in 1979.
Anadiotis played keyboards and contributed vocals.
According to YouTube uploader keurspel (Leon Rossouw) they supported The Temptations in 1979 while in 1980 they toured in Greece for several months.

Café Society was the personal vehicle of Costa Anadiotis who played almost all instruments and produced the one album they released in 1985, Relight My Fire and the various singles.
The band was formed in Johannesburg in 1984 and was a quite successful italo-disco act of the 80s.

In 1986 we find Costa playing keyboards and producing the Cineromantza album of Giannis Palamidas.
From the 90s and on Costa lives in Greece, writing, playing and producing for several Greek artists.

Italo-Disco

Italo-disco emerged in the late 70s, early 80s. During the 80s there were several Greek artists who contributed a bunch of worth mentioning songs (or even whole albums) to the genre. The same artists became the major entertainers/songwriters/producers/singers in the 90s, leaving the English lyrics in favor of Greek and re-starting their careers mostly with local focus.

Costas Charitodiplomenos managed to have a successful presence in European charts from 1983 till 1987 when he shifted focus to the local market. He is one of the pioneers of the Greek Italo-disco sound, with good compositions and great production.
“What you gonna do” comes from his first LP Itchika of 1983. The song was released as a single too under the name 141 G.



Side B of the single one would find the dub version of the song which in 2012 was included in compilation: Into The Light: A Journey Into Greek Electronic Music, Classics & Rarities (1978 - 1991).

Sunday Club was another group that stood out.
They only released one LP produced by Vasilis Dertilis, another master of the italo sound.
The band offered a couple of singles before their leader left to follow a solo career.

Scraptown started as a ska/reggae/blue soul group in 1982 to become another italo-disco act with their third album and Viva Sahara single before that.
The song was a hit in many European countries in 1984. .
They split in 1985.
Besides their contribution to the italo-disco genre, their first album (Scraptown 1982) is a ska/reggae masterpiece.
